A collection of learning resources to assist workers delivering AOD counselling and brief interventions over the telephone.

This Telephone Counselling toolkit has been developed as a collaboration between NCCRED, Adis 24/7 Alcohol and Drug Support Queensland and Insight: Centre for alcohol and other drug training and workforce development.

This Telephone Counselling toolkit contains eLearning modules, videos, tip sheets and other resources.

  • eLearning Module 1 provides an overview of the evidence-base, benefits and challenges of providing AOD counselling and brief interventions over the telephone, including some of the practical and technical considerations professionals and services should consider.
  • eLearning Module 2 focuses specifically on how to respond to more complex presentations including callers who have suicidal ideation, are intoxicated, experiencing withdrawal or displaying aggression, as well as sexualised and hoax calls.

The toolkit also features videos of experienced telephone counsellors sharing their insights and experiences, as well as downloadable activity sheets you can use during a telephone counselling session with your clients.

The Toolkit is free to access and is hosted on the Insight website. You will need to register for an Insight training account.
