What is the research study about?

This research study aims to understand if an internet delivered self-management program for methamphetamine use (called IMPACT) is acceptable to people who use methamphetamine, and if it helps them to change their use and wellbeing.

What is IMPACT?

IMPACT is a 6-week web-based self-management program for people who want to change their methamphetamine use. The program is designed to teach practical skills to manage cravings, improve coping strategies, and enhance overall wellbeing. Each lesson is based on techniques and concepts in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and contains a range of evidence-based activities to practice CBT skills.

We encourage participants to complete the whole five lessons over six weeks to get the most out of the program. But it’s flexible—and they can move through the content at their own pace.

Participants can also stop using the program or withdraw from the research study at any time without giving a reason.

Who is it for?

The research study is looking recruit people who meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 18 or older,

  • Are proficient in the English language,
  • Currently residing in Australia,

What is the research process?

The research study asks people to complete online questionnaires and surveys, before, during, and after using the IMPACT program. These surveys look at methamphetamine use and psychological wellbeing, as well as people’s experience completing the program content. Some people may also complete a telephone or zoom interview to tell us about their experience using the program. This is optional. After the study is complete, the research team will report the results of the research in academic journals. We will also talk about our research findings at conferences and industry events. All Information will be communicated in a way that will not identify any of the participants.

Confidentiality

All aspects of participation, and the information people provide are confidential. Any data collected will be de-identified before being used in research.
